You most likely know that the IEC program allows apprentices to work full-time towards their on-the-job training hours while attending classes, now you might be wondering what your chances of finding a job are. Obtaining a job largely depends on how proactive and persistent you are, the biggest things employers look for is someone who is willing to show up on time and be willing to learn.
Of course, first-year apprentices often have very little experience and need the most training, so it can be trickier to get a job during your first year than it will be going forward. Out of our first-year students who starting classes 6 months ago, 80.7% are currently working in the electrical field. Of the students who started classes 4 months ago, 65.7% are actively working in the field. Some of the students who are not working in the field chose to stay with their current job and will switch to working in the electrical field later in their schooling journey, others are actively looking for a job in the field.
Second year is when employers REALLY know that you are committed to your education and growth, so it gets a bit easier to find employment in the field if you haven't yet. Currently, 90.0% of our second-year apprentices are working in the electrical field.
Our pre-apprenticeship program can help you with getting some hands-on experience and soft skills that will look great on a resume and help you feel more confident when interviewing for positions with electrical companies. Completing this program shows employers that you are dedicated to your career in the electrical field and ready to start working and being a productive team member on job sites. This program is not required, but can be helpful when looking for a job!
