If you missed the registration deadline for a school year, you can still come on in to get registered! We do not have a specified registration window; we accept registrations year-round. You will be registered for the next set of classes, which generally begin in August and October each year. Even though it can feel like a setback to have to wait a while to start classes, there are some benefits of having some time between registration and starting school. While you are waiting for classes to start, you can attend our pre-apprenticeship program, start looking for a job as an electrical apprentice, start reading up on a few materials, and start saving for classes. If you do not feel great about your score on the math diagnostic, you will have a good chunk of time to brush up on your skills using our practice packet or other online resources before retaking the math diagnostic if you would prefer to not attend a math refresher course.
If you are interested in getting some prior electrical knowledge during your time before starting classes (not required), we recommend:
watching Khan Academy's electrical videos and this video from ElectricianU,
reading Thomas Kubala's "Electricity 1" book and this article,
getting familiar with the National Electrical Code®, and
signing up for our pre-apprenticeship program.
Waiting to start classes should not set you back in terms of getting your Journeyworker License as long as you start looking for a job as an apprentice sooner rather than later.
If you are looking to get hired in the electrical field, we can add you to our Job Board webpage once you have registered for classes. Check out our other blog posts regarding getting hired as an electrical apprentice and creating a resume that showcases your skills to potential employers.
